During the period of his higness Sri.
Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyer, (King of Mysore) a new form of Ganjifa comprising of
18 games was formulated. The Mysore Ganjifa Paintings were known as ‘Chanda’
and the same was called ‘Kreeda Patra’ in Sanskrit. The Ganjifa was also known
as ‘Devara Ata’ (God’s Game) in Karnataka. After invasion of Mugal the ‘Kreeda
Patra’ was slightly modified and named as ‘Ganjifa’ which is a Persian word.
This ancient form of Ganjifa Art is Mysore Style was revived by Sri Ganjifa
Raghupathy Bhatta for the first time in Karnataka.
